Utility Project Engineer

Join a dynamic renewable energy environment where you’ll play a key role in delivering grid-connected projects. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you’ll act as a critical technical link between project development, consultants, Eskom, EPC contractors and other key stakeholders.
This is an opportunity to combine your electrical engineering expertise, project coordination skills and practical renewable energy experience to help deliver complex utility-scale projects from development through to execution.
Key Duties
- Take ownership of development-phase technical matters, particularly grid connection activities and Eskom engagement.
- Coordinate Design Consultants and Owner’s Engineers to ensure technically sound and aligned deliverables.
- Participate in and lead technical engagements with Eskom and other external stakeholders.
- Assist Project Developers with technical planning, progress reporting, coordination, and risk management.
- Contribute to the development of technical scopes and procurement documentation.
- Support the technical evaluation and adjudication of consultants, Owner’s Engineers, and EPC contractors.
- Manage and review Eskom technical submissions through relevant approval processes.
- Identify technical constraints and potential project risks at an early stage.
- Provide technical assurance during construction, commissioning, and energisation.
Minimum Requirements
- BEng / BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering.
- PR Eng or PR Tech Eng registration with ECSA.
- At least 8 years’ relevant experience.
- Proven exposure to utility-scale, grid-connected renewable energy projects.
- Experience in utility-scale solar PV projects.
- Practical knowledge of Eskom grid connection and self-build processes.
- Experience with Eskom capacity allocation, CEL and BQ approval processes.
- Strong understanding of HV/MV substations and primary electrical plant.
- Knowledge of OHL infrastructure and associated routing, servitudes, structures, foundations, clearances, and constructability considerations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Comfortable working autonomously and managing technical matters through to resolution.
