Technical Operations Manager

Introduction

We require an Operations Manager at our branch in Phoenix, Durban, KZN. The purpose of the position is to lead and manage the company's technical and operational functions, ensuring the effective coordination of people, production, laboratory, packaging, and customer support activities. To maintain high standards of quality, safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction while driving continuous improvement and supporting the company's strategic growth.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the production, laboratory, and packaging

                 departments to ensure efficient, safe, and effective performance

  • Formulate technical strategy and policy that gives overall direction to the organisation
  • Organise, manage and ensure that ongoing customer support is provided to existing and potential customers
  • Plan, coordinate, and optimise operational resources to achieve production targets,

maximise efficiency, and minimise downtime

  • Ensure active direct support is provided by the laboratory team to resolve technical problems in order to rapidly identify root cause and implement permanent corrective action
  • Manage the maintenance of production equipment, machinery, and company

facilities, ensuring preventative maintenance programs are implemented, downtime

is minimised, and assets remain safe, reliable, and fit for purpose

  • Use a combination of logic, analysis, experience and advanced methods to make sound, timely decisions and solve problems accordingly for customers
  • Ensure product quality and regulatory compliance by maintaining quality

management systems, technical standards, and safe working practices

  • Manage staff and maintain sound industrial relations within area thus ensuring that company policies are adhered to

  • Follow up on employee work performance and provide feedback to employees regarding performance and training required
  • Identify, assess and manage business and operational risks within respective areas of concern
  • Identify and monitor key risk indicators pertaining to key risks within respective area of concern
  • Willing to work and drive towards company SHEQ goals, policies and procedures
  • Strive to work safely, follow all rules with regards to health and safety and encourage others to do so too, to prevent injury and/or illness
  • Strive to reduce environmental impact, e.g. reduce waste, reduce use of electricity, water and fuel, recycle, etc
  • Understanding of the consequences of non-compliance to Company, legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that all staff within your area and/or department comply with the requirements as set out in the ISO Standards, the SHEQ Manual, Company Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Identify areas needed for improvement with regards to SHEQ
  • Identify training needs and request same
  • Any other reasonable additional duties given from time to time (required of the Employee in order to enable the Company to fully utilise its manpower resources)

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Business Management or Analytical Chemistry Qualification
  • 5 Years experience in a Polymer, Emulsion or Chemical environment
  • Previous Management experience preferred
  • Computer literate
