Introduction

J.P. Morgan Payments is seeking a senior sales leader to help shape the future of Corporate Payments across Sub-Saharan Africa. This role offers a rare opportunity to combine the global reach, scale, and capabilities of one of the world's leading payments franchises with the entrepreneurial challenge of growing and expanding client relationships across one of the most dynamic regions in the world.
The successful candidate will partner with some of Africa's largest corporates, helping them modernize treasury, payments, liquidity, trade and cross-border financial infrastructure. Leveraging the global strength of J.P. Morgan Payments, the role will help connect African corporates to one of the world's most sophisticated payments networks while contributing to the continued growth of J.P. Morgan's franchise across the continent.

Job Summary

The Payment Sales Executive Director will co-own senior relationships with J.P. Morgan's largest and most strategic Corporate Sector clients across Sub-Saharan Africa. The role is responsible for originating and closing complex, multi-product treasury and payments opportunities, coordinating coverage across client headquarters and global operations, and leading internal teams from solution design through implementation and ongoing relationship management.

The opportunity extends beyond client coverage and revenue generation. The successful candidate will play a meaningful role in shaping regional strategy, identifying emerging market opportunities, and helping define how J.P. Morgan continues to expand its Corporate Payments franchise across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Success requires navigating complex organizations, influencing senior stakeholders, mobilizing global resources, and converting client needs into measurable revenue growth, strategic partnerships, and enduring relationship value.
What Success Looks Like (12-18 Months)
  • Multi-year account plans are in place and actively governed for priority clients, with clear evidence of pipeline conversion, revenue growth, and relationship expansion.
  • Delivered referenceable client solutions that modernise treasury operations and demonstrate measurable improvements in efficiency, control, or working capital.
  • Deepened J.P. Morgan's relationships with priority African corporates by expanding senior access, broadening product adoption, and strengthening coordination across client headquarters and global operations.
  • Improved control discipline, client satisfaction, and delivery consistency through timely issue resolution and effective coordination across internal teams.
  • Recognised internally and externally as a trusted advisor to Africa's leading corporates, driving measurable client outcomes while strengthening J.P. Morgan's position as a leading payments partner across the region.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic sales origination for top-tier corporates across Sub-Saharan Africa, from C-suite engagement through commercial negotiation and close.
  • Build and sustain long-term, multi-level client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor on treasury and payments strategy.
  • Provide comprehensive coverage of client operations at headquarters and globally to ensure seamless end-to-end delivery and service.
  • Collaborate with product, implementation, risk, and service teams to design and execute tailored solutions across:
    • Cash management and liquidity, including notional and physical pooling, forecasting, and cash concentration.
    • Payables and receivables optimisation, including real-time and instant rails, RTP, ACH, wires, virtual accounts, and request-to-pay solutions
    • Cross-border flows and FX risk mitigation integrated within payment workflows
    • Connectivity and modernisation, including APIs, ERP/TMS integration, ISO 20022, reconciliation, and reporting
    • Controls and compliance, including sanctions screening, AML/KYC alignment, fraud prevention, and cyber controls
  • Use client data, portfolio insights, and market trends to identify, prioritise, and convert growth opportunities and innovation initiatives
  • Represent J.P. Morgan Payments at client forums and industry events, demonstrating thought leadership in Transaction Banking
  • Develop and execute multi-year account plans that define client priorities, relationship goals, revenue opportunities, balance objectives, pipeline milestones, and ownership across the coverage team.
  • Ensure rigorous adherence to internal policies, conduct standards, and regulatory requirements across all interactions.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline governance, monitor sales performance and client outcomes, and initiate corrective action where progress is off plan

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • At least 10 years of experience in transaction banking, treasury services, or payments, including significant responsibility for complex corporate sales and strategic client relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of payments and treasury products, including Sub-Saharan African payment rails and cross-border capabilities.
  • Proven ability to identify, qualify, and advance new opportunities, with a track record of building trusted relationships and influencing CFOs, Treasurers, Boards, and senior decision-makers across complex client organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making across cross-functional global teams and mobilise resources to deliver client outcomes.
  • Robust account planning discipline with a proven track record of execution and revenue delivery.
  • Creative solutioning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex multi-country opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, supported by strong negotiation and influencing capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex opportunities and client priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, urgency, and sound judgement in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of Compliance and KYC processes, supported by a strong risk and control mindset.
  • Ability to mobilise product, implementation, service, risk, and coverage partners across regions to deliver coordinated client outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience within transaction banking, treasury services, or payments gained at a leading bank, financial institution, or fintech, with exposure to complex regional or cross-border mandates.
    • Experience covering some of Africa's largest corporates and multinationals, with a track record of solving complex treasury challenges across Sub-Saharan Africa and globally.
    • Familiarity with ERP/TMS integrations, APIs, ISO 20022 migrations, and payment modernisation programmes.
    • Exposure to FX integration with payments, liquidity risk management, and enterprise-grade fraud controls.
    • Ability to operate across diverse regulatory environments across Sub-Saharan Africa.
