Senior Resource Geologist - Gold and Copper Deposits
About the Role Our client, a leading exploration and mining company, is seeking a highly competent Senior Resource Geologist to join their team in Upington, Northern Cape . This role is central to evaluating and defining gold and copper resources, utilizing advanced geological modeling and estimation techniques. The successful candidate will play a critical role in transforming exploration data into robust resource models that underpin strategic mine planning and investment decisions. This position requires a deep understanding of geological principles, deposit modeling, and resource estimation standards. You will work collaboratively with exploration, mining, and metallurgy teams to ensure accurate and reliable resource definition. We are looking for an experienced geologist with a strong track record in resource estimation, particularly within the Northern Cape 's geological context. Key Responsibilities Develop and validate geological models for gold and copper deposits based on integrated exploration data. Perform resource estimation using industry-standard software and geostatistical methods. Prepare resource reports in accordance with relevant international codes (e.g., JORC, SAMREC). Collaborate with mining engineers to provide geological input for mine design and planning. Assist in the planning and execution of exploration drilling programs and core logging. Conduct geological data quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC). Interpret geological and structural data to understand controls on mineralization. Mentor junior geologists and contribute to team knowledge sharing. Stay updated on the latest advancements in resource geology and estimation techniques. Requirements A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences. A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in resource geology, with specific expertise in gold and copper deposits. Proficiency in resource modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, Vulcan, Datamine). Strong understanding of geostatistics and resource estimation methodologies. Experience with data QA/QC procedures and interpretation of geological data. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Familiarity with the geology of the Northern Cape region is highly advantageous. Professional registration with a relevant body is preferred.
