Senior Geologist (Gold Exploration)

About the Role Our client, a prominent player in the **mining** sector, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Geologist to join their dynamic team in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal . This is a critical role focused on the exploration and evaluation of gold deposits. The successful candidate will be instrumental in identifying and assessing potential new mining sites, contributing directly to the company's strategic growth and resource development. This position requires a deep understanding of geological principles, advanced analytical skills, and the ability to lead exploration projects from inception to feasibility. You will work closely with a team of geologists, geochemists, and other technical experts to maximize the discovery and economic viability of mineral resources. The role involves extensive fieldwork and requires a commitment to safety and environmental best practices within the mining industry. Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed geological mapping and sampling of prospective gold-bearing areas. Interpret geophysical and geochemical data to identify targets for further exploration. Plan and manage drilling programs, including core logging and assay data analysis. Develop geological models and resource estimates for identified gold deposits. Prepare comprehensive geological reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders. Collaborate with external consultants and regulatory bodies as required. Mentor junior geologists and provide technical guidance to the exploration team. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site and in the field. Evaluate the economic potential of identified mineral resources in line with project objectives. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geological exploration techniques and technologies. Requirements Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or a related earth science discipline. A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration, with a strong focus on gold. Proven track record in target generation, drilling management, and resource estimation. Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Micromine, Surpac). Excellent understanding of geological principles, structural geology, and economic geology. Experience with GIS software for spatial data analysis and visualization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in remote field conditions. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the Pietermaritzburg region and to various exploration sites.
