Part-Time Sales Assistant (4+ Hours)

Location: Powerhouse Music - Southampton

About Powerhouse Music

Powerhouse Music is an independent music store in Southampton, bringing together musical instruments, vinyl records and quality coffee all under one roof.

We’re passionate about music and pride ourselves on creating a friendly, welcoming environment for musicians, record collectors and music lovers alike.

We’re looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Part-Time Sales Assistant to join our team for 4+ hours per week.

As Powerhouse Music is open seven days a week, shifts may include weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays, depending on your availability and the needs of the business. There may also be opportunities for additional hours to cover busy periods, holidays and staff absence.

This would be an ideal role for a student or someone looking for a small, regular part-time position that can fit alongside studies, another job or other commitments.

A Flexible Approach to Working

We believe that flexibility should work both ways.

We take the time to understand each team member’s regular availability and plan our rotas months in advance wherever possible, rather than simply adding shifts at short notice.

We care about the people who work with us and understand that everyone has commitments outside of work, whether that’s education, family, another job or simply having a life outside of work.

Our aim is to provide a fair, organised and supportive working environment where our team know when they’re working and can plan their time around it.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Welcoming customers and providing friendly, helpful service
  • Assisting customers with general enquiries and purchases
  • Operating the till and processing transactions
  • Replenishing, pricing and organising stock
  • Helping maintain attractive and well-stocked displays
  • Assisting across our musical instruments, accessories and vinyl departments
  • Helping to keep the shop floor clean, tidy and welcoming
  • Supporting the wider team with general day-to-day store duties

Full training will be provided.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, helpful and approachable
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Confident speaking with customers
  • Comfortable working as part of a small team
  • Happy to get involved with different areas of the store
  • Willing to learn and develop their product knowledge
  • Interested in music, musical instruments or vinyl - a bonus, but not essential
  • Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred, but not essential

You don’t need to be an expert on musical instruments or vinyl. A positive attitude, reliability and a willingness to learn are much more important to us.

Perks & Benefits

  • Staff discount
  • Staff bonus scheme
  • Full training and ongoing support
  • Opportunity for occasional additional/overtime hours
  • Access to selected staff and music industry promotions
  • Casual dress
  • Rotas planned well in advance wherever possible
  • A friendly, independent working environment surrounded by music

To Apply

Please submit your CV along with a short cover note introducing yourself.

We’d love to hear a little about you, why you’d like to work at Powerhouse Music and your general availability throughout the week, including weekdays and weekends.

As shifts can vary across the week, please be as clear as possible about the days and times you are normally available to work. This helps us understand how the position could fit around your existing commitments.
