The purpose of this role is to execute the purchase request from source of supply selection and allocation to finalisation of the purchase order, including tracking the delivery of goods/services by the supplier, monitoring invoice capture, and closing the order.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

As our Purchasing Officer your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Follow all health and safety requirements to ensure a safe work environment.

General:

  • Adhere to the relevant Supply Chain strategy and ensure that critical tasks, performance targets, plans and budgets are adhered to with consideration of risk identification.
  • Embrace an agile Supply Chain by being adaptive and flexible to accommodate and focus on emerging and changing business priorities.

Supply Chain Strategy, Critical Tasks, Targets:

  • Conduct effective purchasing activities (buying goods/services).
  • Conduct Spot Sourcing activities for all purchase requests without an approved supply source and ensure the necessary approvals are obtained.
  • Process change orders and resolve any issues related to supply.
  • Raise visibility of items purchased to enable their placement on the contract.
  • Provide effective and efficient administration and reporting.

Purchasing Excellence & Automation:

  • Ensure that the ordered materials meet set specifications and contain the cost of materials.
  • Ensure accuracy in the purchasing process to limit rework and invoice mismatches impacting other functions (e.g., Accounts Payable).

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier performance, manage queries, and escalate critical issues.

Sustainability & Social:

  • Ensure Sourcing rules applied within Purchasing are aligned with Anglo American Sustainability and Social requirements.
  • Support Anglo American sustainable value creation strategies, initiatives, and associated business cases that advance Anglo American technical, community, sustainability, and financial ambitions.

Communities & Inclusive Procurement:

  • Support the team to identify supplier development needs and opportunities, and provide input into the development of solutions

Specials Requirement:

  • The Incumbent shall be required to work overtime and to be on standby outside of normal working hours, as reasonably necessary and as directed by the Employer and in line with the relevant company policies. These will be managed as reasonably required by the Employer and in line with the relevant company policies.

This role is in Supply Chain (SC) department on a Band 7 (C- Upper) level reporting to the Section Manager Purchasing.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant Supply Chain/Purchasing/Procurement/Logistics or related qualification on NQF5
  • SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

  • Proven experience of 3-5 years in a relevant field or role involving comparable scope and complexity.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Transactional Procurement processes.
  • Proficiency in SAP Purchasing modules and related systems.
  • Strong skills in data analysis and reporting to support decision-making.
  • Knowledge of process compliance standards and monitoring practices.
  • Familiarity with Supply Chain (SC) systems and tools.
