ABOUT THE ROLE The position is based within a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy environment, supporting both private and public sector projects in areas such as buildings, infrastructure and specialised facilities. Typical work involves applying engineering principles to move projects from concept and feasibility through detailed design, documentation and project handover.

Key responsibilities include Managing client liaison on allocated projects, including regular communication and relationship management Contributing to marketing activities within the electrical engineering discipline Applying relevant design standards, procedures and specific client requirements in all project work Keeping up to date with the latest technical standards by attending courses and reviewing technical publications Taking full responsibility for allocated projects, including: Electrical design and calculations Drawings and draughting coordination Preparation of tender and contract documents Input on project finance and cost control Project management of time, quality and scope Providing regular updates to the Office Manager on: Potential project issues or risks Invoicing dates and amounts Overall project progress and milestones Managing and administering junior engineers, technicians and other subordinates on projects Attending to required administrative tasks, including compliance with internal company procedures and documentation standards WHAT YOU'LL NEED Essential knowledge, skills and abilities: Solid knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements relevant to electrical engineering in the South African context Familiarity with current technical engineering software packages used for electrical design and documentation Strong understanding of internal company rules, regulations and procedures, or the ability to learn these quickly Up-to-date knowledge of technical developments in electrical engineering Ability to analyse technical and client requirements objectively and translate them into practical engineering solutions Personal attributes A creative, inquisitive and analytical approach to problem solving Strong attention to detail in design, documentation and checking Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary project team Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written Confidence engaging with specialists from other disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, architectural, etc.) to coordinate integrated solutions Required qualifications Professional registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent discipline recognised by ECSA Required experience Relevant electrical engineering experience that meets ECSA’s requirements for professional registration Experience within consulting engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical) will be advantageous, particularly on building, infrastructure or industrial projects NICE TO HAVE These are beneficial but not strictly essential Experience working on multidisciplinary projects alongside civil, structural and mechanical engineers Exposure to both public sector and private sector projects Prior responsibility for complete project cycles, from feasibility through design, documentation, construction support and project close-out Experience with project finance input, cost control and forecasting on engineering projects WHY JOIN US This role sits within a professional consulting environment where electrical engineers contribute directly to projects that impact communities and businesses.
