Salary: R55,000 – R75,000 CTC per month (Negotiable based on experience)

Reporting to: Team Lead / Technical Services Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Network & VoIP Engineer to join their Network Operations Centre (NOC). This is a senior technical role responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, scalability and security of a high-availability ISP network and VoIP infrastructure.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing core routing and switching environments, maintaining critical voice platforms, resolving complex Tier 3 technical issues and driving continuous network optimisation. This role also provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers while supporting infrastructure growth and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations & Performance

  • Monitor, manage and optimise ISP network performance using monitoring tools such as LibreNMS, PRTG and The Dude.
  • Ensure maximum uptime and performance of the core network infrastructure.
  • Identify network bottlenecks and proactively recommend capacity upgrades.
  • Perform root cause analysis on complex network incidents.
  • Maintain network security and infrastructure integrity.

Core Routing & Switching

  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot enterprise and ISP routing environments.
  • Administer complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking environments.
  • Manage technologies including:
    • BGP
    • OSPF
    • MPLS
    • VLANs
  • Support network expansion and infrastructure improvements.

VoIP & Voice Infrastructure

  • Manage and maintain the company's VoIP platform.
  • Administer the PortaOne platform.
  • Troubleshoot:
    • SIP signalling
    • RTP media streams
    • Call quality issues
    • Voice routing
    • Trunking
  • Ensure high availability of all voice services.

Infrastructure & Data Centre Management

  • Maintain network hardware across multiple sites.
  • Manage switching infrastructure and interconnects.
  • Perform hardware lifecycle management.
  • Install and commission new network equipment.
  • Maintain network redundancy and resilience.

Service Provisioning

  • Provision and activate fibre and connectivity services.
  • Configure circuits across internal infrastructure and third-party providers.
  • Support integration with upstream carriers and Layer 2 providers.
  • Validate new network services before deployment.

Network Monitoring & Incident Management

  • Respond rapidly to alerts and outages.
  • Investigate recurring network issues.
  • Resolve Tier 3 escalations.
  • Participate in standby and after-hours support.
  • Execute maintenance during approved change windows.

Documentation & Change Control

  • Produce and maintain accurate network documentation.
  • Update logical and physical network diagrams.
  • Maintain hardware asset registers.
  • Follow formal Change Management procedures.
  • Document infrastructure changes and technical standards.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Mentor NOC staff.
  • Support project teams with technical expertise.
  • Assist Sales with technical solution design when required.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years' experience within an ISP, Telecommunications or Enterprise Network environment.
  • Strong experience with enterprise routing and switching.
  • Advanced knowledge of:
    • BGP
    • OSPF
    • MPLS
    • VLANs
  • Extensive VoIP experience.
  • Hands-on experience with PortaOne.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • SIP
    • RTP
    • VoIP architecture
  • Experience using:
    • LibreNMS
    • The Dude
    • PRTG
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's licence.

Preferred Qualifications

One or more of the following would be highly advantageous:

  • MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer (MTCRE)
  • MikroTik Certified Inter-networking Engineer (MTCINE)
  • CCNP Enterprise
  • CCNP Service Provider
  • PortaOne Administration Certification
  • Other recognised Networking Certifications

Remuneration

CTC: R55,000 – R75,000 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
