Medical Billing Clerk / Medical Coder

Our client is a leading healthcare services organisation providing specialist diagnostic imaging and medical billing support across international markets. They are seeking a highly detail-oriented Medical Billing Clerk / Medical Coder to join their Finance and Operations team based in Woodstock, Cape Town.

This role offers exposure to international healthcare billing processes, close collaboration with finance and operational teams, and the opportunity to contribute to ongoing automation and process improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring accurate coding, timely billing, and effective revenue cycle management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately code diagnostic imaging studies according to Australian Medicare Diagnostic Imaging Services guidelines.
  • Review referrals, radiology reports, and medical documentation to determine appropriate billing codes.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and completion within strict billing and month-end deadlines.
  • Perform quality assurance checks, data integrity reviews, and investigate coding discrepancies.
  • Respond to stakeholder and radiologist queries regarding study descriptions and coding requirements.
  • Support billing processes, reporting requirements, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review complex imaging studies and ensure compliance with established coding protocols.
  • Assist with machine learning coding validation and automation improvement projects.
Job Experience and Skills Required:

Education:

  • Relevant Medical Coding Certification.
  • Qualification in Healthcare Administration, Medical Billing, or related field will be advantageous.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Medical Coder, Clinical Coder, Medical Billing Specialist, or similar role.
  • Experience within the healthcare or medical industry is essential.
  • Exposure to Australian Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) coding highly advantageous.
  • Experience within Diagnostic Imaging, Radiology, or Healthcare Billing environments preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical abilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven problem-solving ability within a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • High levels of accuracy, accountability, and organisational skills.
