Mechanical Fitter
Introduction
Our manufacturing client, based in Germiston, is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Fitter to join their manufacturing team. The successful candidate will provide mechanical assistance with the installation, maintenance, servicing, adjustment and repair of CNC machinery and related production equipment.
This position is suited to an individual who has practical mechanical experience, is comfortable working with machinery and tools, and has a strong willingness to learn and develop their technical skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, assembly and positioning of CNC machines and related equipment.
- Perform routine mechanical maintenance and basic servicing of CNC machinery.
- Assist qualified artisans and technicians with mechanical repairs and maintenance.
- Identify and report mechanical faults, wear and potential equipment failures.
- Assist with the dismantling, inspection, cleaning and reassembly of machine components.
- Assist with the replacement of bearings, belts, chains, couplings, seals and other mechanical components.
- Carry out basic machine adjustments and alignments under appropriate supervision.
- Use hand tools, power tools and basic workshop equipment safely and correctly.
- Assist with preventative maintenance activities according to maintenance schedules.
- Keep machinery, tools and work areas clean, safe and organised.
- Follow all company maintenance procedures, safety requirements and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Assist with breakdowns and urgent maintenance requirements when required.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work and parts used where required.
- Perform general mechanical and workshop duties as instructed.
- Work closely with machine operators, artisans, supervisors and the maintenance team.
- Perform any other reasonable duties related to the position.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 / Matric preferred.
- Previous experience in a mechanical, engineering, manufacturing or workshop environment.
- Practical experience working with machinery will be advantageous.
- Experience working around CNC machines or production machinery will be advantageous.
- Good understanding of basic mechanical principles.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to read basic mechanical drawings or diagrams will be advantageous.
- Must be physically fit and comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious.
- Must be willing to work shifts/overtime when required.
