Maintenance Electrician

Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed including test results, materials used, and time spent for job costing and compliance.
- Issue Certificates of Compliance after completing installations or repairs, verifying work meets regulatory requirements.
- Install, connect, and test electrical wiring, conduits, distribution boards, circuit breakers, lighting, and power outlets per SANS 10142.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and emergencies during and outside normal hours as part of a standby rotation.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals to plan installations and troubleshoot circuit problems.
- Install and commission solar photovoltaic systems including panel mounting, inverter connection, battery integration, and system configuration.
- Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety regulations including lockout and tagout procedures when working on energised equipment.
Requirements
- A recognised trade certificate in electrical engineering or national diploma in electrical engineering from a registered institution.
- Thorough knowledge of SANS 10142 wiring code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as applied to electrical work.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to systematically diagnose faults and identify root causes rather than just symptoms.
- A wireman's licence issued by the Department of Employment and Labour and electrical contractor registration where required.
- For solar roles, demonstrated experience in photovoltaic system design and installation with relevant solar-specific certification.
- A valid driver's licence with ability to travel to client sites as required, often carrying tools and equipment.
- A minimum of three to four years of post-qualification experience in electrical installation, maintenance, or construction.
