Responsibilities
- Prepare professional reports and recommendations for courts, parole boards, and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Investigate reports of child abuse, neglect, and family violence, assessing risk and making appropriate referrals for protection.
- Develop and implement individualised intervention and care plans in collaboration with clients, families, and other professionals.
- Liaise with schools, healthcare facilities, law enforcement, and other agencies to coordinate holistic client support.
- Facilitate access to social services including grants, housing, healthcare, and other support programmes.
Requirements
- Excellent assessment and report writing skills to produce professional documentation for courts and other authorities.
- A valid driver's licence is often required for home visits and community outreach work.
- For social auxiliary worker roles, a certificate in social auxiliary work and registration with the SACSSP at the appropriate level.
- Emotional resilience and the ability to manage the stress associated with working with traumatised and vulnerable individuals.
- A clear criminal record is mandatory given the nature of work with children and vulnerable persons.
- A minimum of two to three years of experience in social work practice in the relevant field of service.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation including the Children's Act, Older Persons Act, and Domestic Violence Act.
