HR Officer/Payroll

Job Purpose

Lead Gurus is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Junior HR Officer / Payroll Administrator to support the Human Resources function across the employee lifecycle. The successful candidate will assist with HR administration, recruitment coordination, onboarding and offboarding processes, leave administration, payroll support, and HR compliance activities while contributing to a positive employee experience.

Key ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources Administration

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and personnel files.
  • Prepare HR documentation including employment contracts, letters, and employee correspondence.
  • Ensure all employee information is captured and maintained in HR systems.
  • Assist with HR reporting and administrative tasks as required.
Recruitment Support
  • Assist with job advertising and vacancy management.
  • Screen applications and coordinate interviews with hiring managers.
  • Communicate with candidates throughout the recruitment process.
  • Support the onboarding of new employees.
Employee Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Coordinate onboarding activities and employee induction programmes.
  • Prepare onboarding documentation and ensure completion of all required forms.
  • Manage exit processes, including documentation and asset return tracking.
  • Conduct administrative tasks relating to employee terminations and resignations.
Leave & Attendance Administration
  • Monitor employee leave balances and process leave applications.
  • Maintain attendance records and assist with reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with company leave policies and procedures.
Payroll Administration Support
  • Assist with the preparation and processing of payroll information.
  • Capture payroll-related changes including new hires, terminations, leave, and employee updates.
  • Ensure payroll data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Liaise with payroll providers and employees regarding payroll queries.
HR Compliance & Record Keeping
  • Ensure HR documentation complies with relevant labour legislation and company policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information.
  • Support HR audits and compliance initiatives.
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of HR policies and procedures.
Minimum RequirementsQualifications
  • National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
Experience
  • 0 – 2 years' experience in Human Resources or Payroll Administration.
  • Exposure to HR administrative processes and employee record management.
Knowledge
  • Sound understanding of HR Administration principles.
  • Knowledge of South African labour legislation, including:
  • Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA)
  • Labour Relations Act (LRA)
  • Employment Equity Act (EEA)
  • Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
