About the Role
Our client is seeking an innovative Game Designer specializing in Systems to join their team in Vereeniging and contribute to the creation of engaging and complex gaming experiences within the Arts & Entertainment sector. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and iterating on core game systems, mechanics, and player progression. This role demands a deep understanding of player psychology, game balance, and emergent gameplay, working closely with programmers, artists, and other designers to craft compelling and fun interactive worlds that captivate players, fostering a collaborative and iterative design process.
Key Responsibilities Design, document, and implement core game systems, including combat, economy, progression, and AI behaviors. Balance game mechanics, player abilities, and difficulty curves to ensure a challenging yet fair experience. Collaborate with engineers to translate design concepts into functional gameplay systems. Create detailed design documentation, flowcharts, and wireframes for complex features. Playtest and iterate on systems based on feedback from the team and player testing. Analyze player data and metrics to identify areas for improvement and optimization. Requirements 3+ years of professional experience in game design, with a focus on system design for PC or console games. A strong portfolio showcasing system design work and creative problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in game design software and tools, including scripting languages (e.g., Lua, Python) if applicable. Deep understanding of game balance, player motivation, and player psychology. Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills. Passion for video games and a broad knowledge of different game genres and mechanics.
