Programme Details

  • Programme Duration: 6 Months
  • Stipend: R2,000 per month
  • Learning Model: Blended Learning (2 days online learning and 3 days of practical in-store training per week)
  • Location: Various Pick n Pay Stores

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade12 (Matric)
  • Unemployed South African youth aged 18–40 years
  • Passion for baking, food preparation, and customer service
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to completing the programme
  • Able to work flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays where required

What You'll Learn During the programme, learners will gain practical experience and develop skills in:

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and complete all online learning modules and assessments.
  • Attend 2 days of online learning and 3 days of practical in‑store training each week.
  • Assist with bakery production and food preparation under the guidance of experienced bakery teams.
  • Prepare, package, and present bakery products according to Pick n Pay standards.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and housekeeping.
  • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Support merchandising and stock replenishment within the bakery department.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the bakery and store team.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and a positive attitude throughout the programme
