Field Service Technician - Rustenburg

Duties & Responsibilities

Role Purpose: Perform maintenance and repairs on earthmoving equipment as per client and company request.

Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repair

  • Fault Finding: Conduct advanced hydraulic fault finding.

  • Support Service: Provide technical support and advice to clients; provide assistance to Mechanics; assist with compilation of parts list.

  • Mechanical Duties: Inspect and repair machines and components according to Hitachi standards and procedures and within agreed timeframe; conduct necessary fault finding to identify the problem and take necessary corrective action.

  • Engineering Processes: Process completed according to acceptable engineering processes; inspect final product to ensure correlation with standards and procedures.

  • Customer Relations: Develop and maintain sound relations with customers; resolve customer queries timely and accurately.

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct evaluation on processes to ensure quality assurance and implement remedial actions if and where necessary to address non-conformance.

  • Health and Safety: Adhere to all applicable safety, health and environmental practices and procedures to ensure compliance at all times; address all unsafe practices/potential hazardous situations, rectify and report to relevant stakeholder; promote safety culture and awareness amongst fellow employees on ongoing basis; ensure vehicle meets required safety standards; equipment is maintained at all times and defects reported to relevant manager.

  • Good Housekeeping: Ensure workshop is clean at all times; ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned after use and stored in the correct manner; maintain field service vehicles at all times according to standards and procedures.

  • People Management: Conduct on the job training and development of sub-ordinates

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Trade Certificate: Diesel/HEM/Millwright/Auto Electrician (or related).
  • Minimum: 3-5 years post trade experience at Operational level within the heavy earthmoving equipment maintenance Industry.
  • Extensive Hitachi product knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of inspection and measurement techniques and equipment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word or similar software to prepare reports.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Extensive Knowledge of Hitachi engines and components.
