External Sales Representative

Job Description

A well-established player in the building industry is looking for a driven and commercially minded Sales Representative to take ownership of the Northern Cape and Lesotho regions.

To drive product specification on key construction and infrastructure projects by building relationships with developers, architects, designers, quantity surveyors and consulting engineers, ensuring the company’s products are selected as the preferred solution.

Min Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ external sales experience in a B2B or field-based sales environment
  • Experience within construction, building, technical sales, or related industries will be advantageous
  • Exposure to public sector, infrastructure, or tender-driven projects will be preferred
  • Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage long sales cycles and complex sales environments
  • Matric (essential), Relevant tertiary qualification advantageous
  • Valid driver’s license with a clear credit record
  • Must have a reliable vehicle in good working condition, or be in a position to obtain vehicle finance in line with the company’s car allowance policy
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and grow sales within the assigned territory by identifying and converting new business opportunities
  • Re-activate dormant accounts and expand existing customer relationships
  • Achieve and exceed annual sales targets through proactive sales planning and execution
  • Drive product specification on infrastructure and development projects by engaging with developers, architects, designers, quantity surveyors, and consulting engineers
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the construction and professional sectors, including public sector-related projects
  • Conduct regular client visits and site inspections to ensure product specifications, quality, and delivery requirements are met
  • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms to maximise revenue and market share
  • Identify and track new project opportunities and maintain a strong pipeline of potential business
  • Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and customer needs to inform sales strategy
  • Investigate customer queries or claims and ensure timely resolution and follow-up
  • Maintain accurate reporting, including sales activity, pipeline updates, and monthly performance reports
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective service delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Maintain consistent communication with management regarding sales performance, opportunities, and risks
Industry & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry bodies, professional associations, and relevant forums
  • Represent the company within the construction and building industry where required
  • Engage with stakeholders involved in infrastructure and development projects to support long-term business growth
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at increasing market presence and product adoption within the region
Package:
  • Basic salary: R28,000 – R31,000 per month plus incentives, with earning potential of up to 40% of base salary
  • Car allowance: R7,965 per month
  • Medical aid (optional, 50% contribution)
  • Fuel Card
Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel extensively (±7,000 – 8,000 km per month)
