About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human work that teaches models how to understand speech, text, images, and more. Contributors provide the high‑quality examples and corrections modern models learn from.

This role sits at the intersection of language and speech: your transcriptions and metadata directly improve speech recognition, text generation, and entity models used across products and research.

The role

We are hiring an English Audio Transcription Specialist to transcribe, review, and annotate English audio to train and improve machine transcription and language models.

This is a remote contractor, part‑time position requiring 20+ hours per week. Pay is hourly at USD $20–$30/hr. Work is worldwide and language requirement is fluent English.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part‑time
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week
  • Pay: USD $20–30 per hour (pay‑per‑hour)
  • Data type: Audio; label tasks include transcription, text corrections, and entity tagging

What you'll do

Your core responsibility is producing accurate, well‑formatted English transcripts and annotations from audio sources and improving machine‑generated outputs.

  • Transcribe English audio files accurately and consistently according to project style guides
  • Review and correct machine‑generated transcripts for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and context
  • Add metadata tags and annotations (including entity labels) to improve language‑data quality
  • Follow strict quality and formatting standards and maintain clear records of completed work
  • Clarify ambiguous audio or transcript decisions with the project team when needed
  • Handle confidential or sensitive content with discretion and professionalism
  • Suggest process improvements based on recurring errors or usability issues

Requirements

We need reliable contributors with strong language skills and transcription experience who can work independently and meet deadlines.

  • Fluent English with excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Extensive experience transcribing and captioning English audio
  • High attention to detail when reviewing and correcting machine outputs
  • Experience annotating and tagging metadata for language datasets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and time management
  • Comfortable working remotely and independently to meet tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with transcription tools/platforms, speech recognition, or ML projects is preferred
  • Background in linguistics, English, or related language studies is preferred

Who should apply

This role is a great fit for experienced transcribers, captioners, freelance linguists, or anyone with a strong command of English and a track record of accurate, timely work.

You should enjoy detailed review work, be comfortable with structured annotation tasks (including entity tagging), and be committed to confidentiality and consistent quality.

How it works

After you join, you will receive project instructions and style guides. Tasks include raw transcription, editing machine transcripts, and applying metadata tags using the project interface.

Quality is monitored through periodic reviews and feedback. Keep organized records of completed assignments and follow update requests from the project team. Communication is remote and primarily via the project workspace.

  • Tasks: Transcription, machine‑output correction, metadata/NER tagging
  • Quality control: periodic QA reviews and feedback loops
  • Confidentiality: handle sensitive audio and transcripts with care

Compensation & scheduling

This position pays by the hour at USD $20–30/hr. Work is part‑time and must meet a minimum of 20 hours per week; exact scheduling is flexible within project deadlines.

OpenTrain AI contracts contributors for discrete projects; payment terms and frequency will be provided when you accept an assignment.
