Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum education level: Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level
  • Basic computer literacy to handle essential digital tasks
  • Experience in a food retail or similar customer service environment is advantageous
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings and weekends
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with customers and team members
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills for stock management and record-keeping
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and cold chain management
  • Attention to detail to ensure stock rotation, merchandising, and shrinkage control
  • Demonstrated personal discipline including punctuality, dress code adherence, and team collaboration

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting customers warmly and responding to their needs effectively.
  • Apply selling skills by advising customers on product options, promotions, and alternatives when items are unavailable.
  • Manage stock efficiently by implementing stock rotation, maintaining cold chain and hygiene standards, and replenishing shelves accurately.
  • Identify and address quality concerns promptly, including isolating damaged goods and managing returns to vendors.
  • Adhere strictly to shop-keeping disciplines including gap policies, planograms, and maintaining a clean, tidy department.
  • Minimise shrinkage by reporting dishonest acts, managing stock losses, and following red flag processes and security protocols.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge to assist customers and promote new lines and ongoing promotions in the department.
  • Exhibit personal leadership through punctuality, adherence to dress code and hygiene standards, and active participation in team meetings.
