BUILDING MANAGER

Introduction

An established manufacturing company in Pretoria West is seeking a reliable and experienced Building Manager to maintain and improve its facilities and infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep, repair and preventative maintenance of company buildings, grounds and utilities while ensuring compliance with safety standards and building regulations. The ideal candidate will be strong in building construction and general maintenance in a manufacturing environment.

Building Maintenance

  • Do building, construction and renovation projects for the group and Abacus Trust on its housing properties
  • Perform routine inspections of company buildings and facilities and carry out preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure buildings remain safe and operational.
  • Complete general building repairs including painting, plastering, roofing, flooring, doors, windows and fencing.

 

Plumbing & Electrical

  • Maintain and repair plumbing systems including pipes, taps, toilets and drainage.
  • Perform basic electrical maintenance including lighting, plug points and switches.

 

Housekeeping

  • Maintain factory grounds, parking areas, boundary walls and walkways.
  • Oversee garden maintenance, cleanliness and general housekeeping of company properties.
  • Ensure maintenance tools and equipment are kept in good working order.

 

General & Administration

  • All construction work should only be conducted with a proper scope, project plan, budget and approval in place.
  • Planning of all work should be approved weekly with a first week cast in stone and second week planned with cash flow requirements.
  • A job card system should be used for all maintenance work.
  • For projects, daily diaries, progress tracking and weekly Payment Certificates should be used
  • Ensure SHEQ compliance
  • Identify and report maintenance risks and hazards.
  • Maintain maintenance records, schedules and inventory of tools and spare parts.
  • Obtain quotations and assist with maintenance planning and budgeting.
  • Coordinate and oversee external contractors when required.

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in building, construction or facilities management.
  • Strong knowledge of general construction, plumbing and basic electrical maintenance.
  • Good understanding of preventative maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read building plans and technical drawings.
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and reporting abilities.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual maintenance work.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Must reside close to the Pretoria West factory.

Education

Package & Remuneration

A market-related remuneration package will be offered based on qualifications, experience and technical competency.
