Fairlane is a growing U.S. back office, accounting, and bookkeeping services firm serving small-to-medium sized businesses.

We are looking for a staff accountant / bookkeeper to join our fully-remote South African team, focused on ability to quickly learn and accurately perform accounting and administrative tasks for clients.

Mission & Impact

Fairlane provides accounting and back office support to growing service and software businesses. This role is essential for supporting the business’s operations and growth by handling both daily back office, bookkeeping functions and more advanced accounting responsibilities. The right candidate will be a quick learner of complex systems, highly accurate, and very communicative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform bookkeeping and data entry tasks, including billing, invoicing, AP/AR
  • Perform complex processes across systems
  • Assist with monthly accruals, journal entries, and month-end close processes
  • Prepare question lists and communicate with clients
  • Maintain accurate financial records and generate basic financial reports
  • Join meetings or support communications as needed
  • Ensure adherence to best practices and accounting standards

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Native and easily understandable English; able to join calls confidently
  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or as a staff accountant and expertise in commonly used accounting systems
  • Strong attention to detail, top-notch accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in accruals, journal entries, and month-end processes
  • Experience working with small to mid-sized businesses (non-public accounting)
  • Dedicated full-time availability; not open to side gigs or multiple job holders
  • Must be willing to be flexible with US hours (EST/EDT)

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent qualification
  • Expertise in Quickbooks Online

KPIs / Success Metrics

  • Timeliness and accuracy of data entry and bookkeeping and month-end close tasks
  • Clear, professional communication in both internal and client interactions
  • High responsiveness and reliability during work hours

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: R25 000,00 - R33 000,00 per month
