Introduction

The Assessor and Moderators provide administrative support to the Assessment Operations Coordinator by assisting with the administration, communication, tracking, documentation, and record management of assessment and moderation activities.The role is responsible for maintaining assessment records, coordinating communication with other assessors and moderators, and completing accurate reports within required timelines.The incumbent plays a key role in ensuring the administration of assessment and moderation operations while supporting quality assurance, compliance, audit readiness, and learner success.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assessment Activities
  • Assess learner Portfolios of Evidence (PoEs), assignments, projects, practical tasks, and examinations in accordance with approved assessment guides and marking instruments.
  • Ensure assessments are conducted fairly, validly, reliably, and consistently.
  • Provide constructive learner feedback that supports learner development and improvement.
  • Capture assessment outcomes accurately on all required systems and documentation.
  • Ensure all assessment activities are completed within agreed turnaround times.

Moderation Activities

  • Moderate learner assessments in accordance with moderation requirements and institutional standards.
  • Verify the consistency and fairness of assessment decisions.
  • Complete moderation reports accurately and within required timelines.
  • Identify assessment irregularities, inconsistencies, and quality concerns.
  • Provide developmental feedback to assessors where required.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with QCTO, SETA, accreditation, and institutional assessment requirements.
  • Maintain complete and accurate assessment and moderation records.
  • Participate in internal and external verification, audits, and accreditation activities when required.
  • Ensure all evidence submitted for moderation is complete and audit-ready.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of learner information and assessment outcomes.

Learner Support

  • Respond to learner assessment queries professionally and timeously.
  • Participate in assessment feedback sessions where required.
  • Support learner progression by identifying assessment challenges and referring concerns appropriately.
  • Encourage academic integrity and ethical conduct throughout the assessment process.

Professional Development

  • Attend assessor and moderator standardisation meetings.
  • Participate in training, quality assurance workshops, and professional development initiatives.
  • Maintain relevant assessor and moderator registrations and scopes where applicable.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory and qualification changes impacting assessment practices.
  • General
  • Submit invoices and supporting documentation according to institutional requirements.
  • Perform other assessment and moderation duties reasonably aligned with the role.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications
  • Relevant qualification in the field being assessed or moderated.
  • Registered Assessor qualification.
  • Registered Moderator qualification (for moderation responsibilities).
  • Relevant SETA/QCTO scope where applicable.
  • SAQA ID 66071 – Further Education and Training Certificate: Computer Aided Drawing Office Practice (Level 4)
  • SAQA ID 121692 – Higher Occupational Certificate: Architectural Draughtsperson (Level 5)
Requirements:
  • Registered with the relevant CETA
  • Valid Assessor and/or Moderator scope
  • Relevant qualifications and industry experience in CAD or Architectural Draughting

Experience

  • Minimum 2–5 years' industry experience in the relevant occupational field.
  • Previous assessment and moderation experience.
  • Experience working within QCTO, SETA, Occupational Certificate, Higher Education, or Skills Development environments will be advantageous.
