Anaesthetic Billing Clerk
Introduction
The Anaesthetic Billing Clerk is responsible for the accurate processing, submission, and management of anaesthetic accounts and medical claims. The incumbent will liaise with medical aids, patients, hospitals, and healthcare professionals to ensure timely billing, claim submissions, payment reconciliations, and query resolution while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and practice standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Capture and process anaesthetic accounts accurately and timeously.
- Submit claims to medical aids and private patients.
- Follow up on outstanding claims and payments.
- Reconcile accounts and allocate payments received.
- Investigate and resolve claim rejections and billing discrepancies.
- Liaise with medical aids, hospitals, doctors, and patients regarding billing queries.
- Ensure all billing is completed in accordance with medical aid rules and tariff structures.
- Verify patient information and supporting documentation before claim submission.
- Process account adjustments, credit notes, and refunds where required.
- Maintain accurate billing records and patient account information.
- Generate billing and debtor reports as required.
- Assist with month-end billing procedures and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with POPIA and patient confidentiality requirements.
- Provide administrative support to the billing department when required.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a medical billing environment.
- Previous experience with anaesthetic billing is non negotiable.
- Experience dealing with medical aids, claim submissions, and account reconciliations.
- Exposure to private healthcare practices, hospitals, or specialist billing environments.
