Job Description

BidAir Services is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Airport Ground Staff, specializing in Passenger Assistance, at our Secunda operations. This vital role is central to ensuring a smooth, safe, and positive experience for all passengers, whether on commercial, charter, or corporate flights. While Secunda Airport primarily handles corporate and charter operations, our commitment to passenger service remains paramount.

As Airport Ground Staff, you will be the welcoming face and helping hand for travelers, assisting them from arrival to departure. Your responsibilities will extend beyond mere logistics; you will be an ambassador for efficiency, safety, and customer care. This is a shift-based position, requiring flexibility and adaptability to accommodate various flight schedules and operational demands, including weekends and public holidays. You'll work closely with flight crews, security personnel, and other ground operations teams to coordinate seamless transitions and resolve any passenger-related issues with professionalism and empathy. This role demands excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive passenger assistance, including check-in support, boarding and deplaning guidance, and special assistance for passengers with reduced mobility or special needs.
  • Handle passenger queries, provide accurate flight information, and resolve travel-related issues with a customer-centric approach.
  • Assist with baggage handling procedures, including tagging, loading, unloading, and reconciliation, ensuring compliance with safety and security regulations.
  • Coordinate with flight crews, ramp agents, and other airport personnel to ensure timely aircraft turnaround and departure.
  • Operate various ground support equipment safely and efficiently, as required, and after appropriate training.
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance regarding security protocols and report any suspicious activities or safety concerns.
  • Adhere strictly to all company policies, airport regulations, and aviation safety standards.
  • Work effectively as part of a team in a shift-based roster, demonstrating punctuality and reliability.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven experience in a customer service-oriented role (minimum 1 year).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude.
  • Physical fitness to stand, walk, lift baggage (up to 23kg), and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the aviation, hospitality, or travel industry.
  • Familiarity with airport operations and safety procedures.
  • A valid driver’s license (Code 08/B).
  • Proficiency in additional South African official languages.
